EASTER:
is going to be here before we know it, as usual the year is starting to fly by.We would like to have an Easter Raffle and would appreciate any appropriate donations to start coming in now.
It would be good to have our prizes sorted well beforehand this year. Once packed they will not be added to.
Depending on donations we may have more than one prize.
Please don't hesitate to contact the Shop Coordinator Dianne Vagg on 82588562 with any queries or donations.
GALLERY COOK BOOK.
Colleen is accepting Members Favourite Recipe's for this along with a good quality jpeg photo, of one of your favourite individual art pieces to be diplayed in a cook book.We will be producing this for sale for Mother's Day. (Price to be announced once everything is finalized)
It would be lovely if you can all get on board with this as it will be a good promotion for the Gallery, and make a lovely gift.
I would like to thank those who have already sent theirs in, Colleen is very pleased with the response so far.
The Gawler Community Gallery is 7 years old this year,
and we are constantly looking at ways to improve the Gallery and our Profile in the Community.The more we can get word out across the State, the more visitors we will have dropping in.
If you have any great ideas;
jot them down, bring them in to the gallery, attend one of our monthly meetings, (members are more than welcome to attend) phone a committee member, email or post.We always appreciate input from you our members, for without you and your enthusiasm where would we be!!!
Our next Newsletter will be out shortly and I will have more updates then.
Exhibition Updates
Due to unforseen circumstances;
Krysia Potaczek has had to cancel her exhibition scheduled for Feb 27th - April 6th. We wish you and your family well Krysia and hope that you can join us a little later in the year.In the mean time we have been lucky enough to have oure very own talented "Colleen Gates" step up and take over the Tea and Sugar room for Feb27th to April 6th with;
"Across The Years".
I have no doubt that we will be treated to a beautiful variety of Colleen's lovely Elephants and other favourite African animals along with some of her lovely landscapes from works she has produced over the years.
Our "Mother" themed Canvas exhibition:
will be in the "Red Hen" room downstairs and is looking like it is one not to be missed. It is amazing how people have come up with such a variety of subject given that your writer thought this would be a difficult one for our members, however I am proved incorrect and thankfully so.
Glenys Leske is Exhibiting in both our upstairs rooms - The "Overlander "and the "Ghan", as yet I have no information regarding this one, however will add updates as soon as they are available.

GALLERY NEWS
FEBRUARY 2014- Book your Exhibition Now
It is still early in the year and yet we already have several bookings for 2015, so if you are planning or considering either a SOLO or a GROUP exhibition for next year, now is the time to lock it in so that you can choose the Exhibition Room that you would prefer to use.There are several "Open" exhibitions throughout this year, so take advantage of this and encourage any artists you know to enter, our fees are VERY reasonable.
There are prizes for the following: "175th Gawler History exhibition" in April/May, the "Photographic exhibition" in May/June, and the "Gawler Art Award", in August/September.
As is usual, Non-members will attract a 33.3% commission on any sales they have and members the usual 25% commission.
"The Gawler Art Award" prize money has been increased this year to a total prize pool of $2,500. so I hope you all have great ideas for your entries in this one.
Exhibitions with a TWIST !
We are hoping to have the "Adelaide Plains" writing group come in during "The Mother" exhibition (27th Feb to April 6th) and write a poem on the piece of Art which moves/appeals to each of their members. This has been done before with some lovely poems written, and was very popular. We hope to display some of them with the Art piece they are about also.It is also proposed that the "Transitions" group stop over at the gallery during their "Bike Ride Tresure Hunt", and whilst there select a painting and do a critique on it. Just another way to add interest to our activities and help with the promotion and awareness of our gallery's existence in the community and beyond. This one is yet to be confirmed and the date selected, so will keep you posted.
Also yet to be confirmed is the possibility of holding a "Re-use, Reduce and Recycle" Exhibition later in the year.
These will all present some very intersting results, so get amongst it and start producing some fantastic work for them.
Other News
Our Treasurer Ellen has taken on the role of co-ordinator for the Art section at The Gawler Show this year, there will be prize money involved, however I do not have the exact details of this as yet.Whilst our forever active Secretary and her helpers were sorting, collating and filing all our many, many papers, they came across some gift vouchers with the gallery logo on them. It has been agreed to re-instate these and they will soon be available for our customers to purchase.
What industrious and clever people we have amongst our members and committee.
A HUGE thanks go out to Colleen, Sylvia and Joanne for the above efforts this last month.
Thanks also to Carol, Judy and her partner Dave for their clean up at the gallery both inside and outside in the garden.
