What's On! What's Coming!

S.A.L.A. Is now running and there are so many events happening all across South Australia, for even more information see- AroundYou.com, and EventFinda.com.au, Adelaide , Northern Areas.

Here is the Gawler Art Trail, which covers many events in the local area. We know there are more, but this trail is easy to follow and makes for a great day out if you are in the area.

M.P. Mr Tony Picollo Opens 2 Exhibitions

‘Mosaics’ – ‘As Time Goes By’ exhibition.

On Sunday the 5^thof July at 2pm, M.P. Mr Tony Picollo opened this vibrant exhibition by the students of Julia Mannix, in one of their upstairs rooms. (The Ghan Room)



 They also have the ‘Overland Room’ across the hall. The opening was 0verflowing with attendees, and the mosaic work presented in these two rooms is of excellent quality and beauty. 






All the pieces are very detailed, and many pieces are 3 D. Job well done Ladies, Congratulations to one and all.

  Amity 10 Years On Exhibition

Following the Mosaics opening Tony proceeded downstairs to officially open ‘AMITY's 10 Years On’ exhibition, which is the Left hand room (Red Hen) as you enter the gallery. 

This is the third time that he has opened for them, and again the room was overflowing with invitees and visitors.

Over the years the group expanded it's numbers temporarily from 6 to 9 then was forced to  reduce them in later years. 

Dorothy Beverly, regretfully left the group due to her advancing years (we hope you are keeping well Dorothy),and greatly respected and loved Phil Bolding sadly passed away as the result of a brain tumour a few years ago. 

The group advises us that they are both still sadly missed.

On a lighter note the friendship of Amity seems to shine through their work. This year there are animals painted by all members and yet they are all so vastly different with each persons individual style being quite obvious. They also have, cards, Unframed work and Jewelry for sale.

We all very much appreciate the time you have given to the gallery, and its exhibitors over the years Tony, from Amity and all from The Gawler Community Gallery.

Gawler Art Society - G.A.S. Mr Bruce Eastick 

 Finally  at 2.30pm, Mr Bruce Eastick, (Poet and Patron for G.A.S) opened ‘The Gawler Art Society’ (G.A.S) exhibition.

 Held in the downstairs ‘Tea and Sugar’ exhibition room, this too was very well attended. 

Many of the artists in this group are also members of ‘The Gawler Community Gallery’.  

Some of them support us by regularly exhibiting individually, they also have work in the ‘Gallery Shop’, and often sit on the roster as well.

Unfortunately I do not have a photo of G.A.S. to share with you.

A very talented group of artists with a huge variety of style, genre and medium.

You really should make every effort to make the visit to Gawler to see all of the Excellent exhibitions that are currently running Thursday to Sunday until the 9^thof August.  ALL work in these exhibitions is for sale and would make wonderful gifts or a perfect new addition to your home, and entry is free.

The tally for the day is listed at 64 in the Day Book, however I have been reliably informed that the volunteers lost count at about 2pm. They were so busy with enquiries and sales. So we know that there were a lot more people who came to see the opening of ALL the exhibitions.

This Week End

My appologies for being so behind with information for the Gawler Community Gallery.

Currenttly there are a lot of people on the sick list, myself included.

I will however do my best to bring you all up to date with all the news and views coming up in the next couple  of months.

Exhibitions about to Open are:-

The following Exhibitions are all Opening this Sunday 24th of May, at 2 pm.

Heather Garfield, Titled: 'Salt Water' in the Tea & Sugar Room.

Heather is having  local poet/writer Jeff Guess, speak at the opening of her exhibition.  An exciting exhibition to explore. It will be appreciated by anyone with a love of the sea. Heather’s watercolours are always a delight, she has a lovely individual style which is very fresh and vibrant.

Owen Jones Titled: ‘The Diversity of Owen Jones Art’ in the Ghan Room.

Owen will be showing landscapes, seascapes and abstract works. He is an ex-stockman who is a self-trained artist He has won awards and had many solo shows with lots of sales.

Ron Brooks: in the ‘Overland’ Room. (Title unknown)

He told our News Editor that "he has been exploring 'mythological themes and creatures', and extending his knowledge. We are used to seeing Ron’s exquisite flowers and birds in watercolour. He has such technical expertise and experience so I am very excited to see what he comes up with".

 Glenys Leske Titled: ‘Landscapes’ by Glenys Leske' in the Red Hen Room.

Glenys lives in Berri, S.A, she is a long- term member of the Embroiderer’s Guild, S.A. Lace Guild and Foundation Member of Riverland Textile artists. 
Her landscapes are created with layered fabrics and machine embroidery, stitches en masse to give texture and perspective. Her work is a wonder to behold.

Glenys has exhibited with us in the past and anyone who has seen her work has been enthralled, amazed and delighted at what can be achieved by this method of- (if you like painting a scene.)

Current Exhibitions

First the Mothers' Day Raffle Prize Winners - 1st prize- Alan Polkinghorne, 2nd prize - Jack Herlihen, 3rd prize - Jan Garner. Congratulations to all, I am sure the prizes were very well recieved by the respective Mother's,  and a Very Belated Happy Mother's Day to all.

The Following Exhibitions were opened on the 11th April and will close on the 17th of May.

Open Photographic Exhibition, Winner : Elise Eiffe with ‘Orange Poppy’.  
You will have to see this one at the Gallery to see how Elise has captured  the essence of this poppy. 
The second prize:went to Paul Johnson for his ‘Redcapped Robin’.  
These photographers  excel in patience as well as skill.






Hippy Divas by Portia Stanton Noble and and Pamela Zanker,
have a quirky, interesting collection of work in their ‘Hippie Diva Exhibition’.


Portia with her photos of the Sirens of the Vine are a delight of cheekiness. The vineyards and the juxtaposition of pretty models is quite fetching.

Pamela’s work shows such variety and ingenuity.  These are mostly abstract works and are definitely worth the visit to see them.

The Open History Exhibition

There is a vast variety of style, technique and subject entered into this exhibition all showing many aspects of South Australian History.

The Prize for this exhibition will be decided by 'People's Choice' by a counting of votes at the closing of the exhibition period on 17th of May. The winner will be announced here on the blog in the next post.

Anzac Day

Gallery Update

There will be a lot of Commemorative Services throughout Australia, so on behalf of all our Members and Committee I would like to take the time to say-                        

     'Lest We Forget' 

     and Thank you 

       to anyone who has served our country 

                                 in times of war.

This ANZAC day the gallery will NOT be open in the morning, so as to Honor ALL our Soldiers, Medical Services, and Animals who have fought in ALL wars during the last 100 years. 

The Gallery will re-open at 1.pm on ANZAC Day and Close at 4.pm

What's New

Easter and Change is in the Air

GCG would like to wish you all a Very Happy Easter, I hope you have had lovely weather for getting out and about on this long week end as we have here in Gawler.

The current round of exhibitions is about to end and the new ones are in the process of being hung in readiness for Grand Openings next weekend.  They will run from 9th April to 17th May 2015. 

The 'Open Photographic Exhibition', Opening Ceremony will be held at 2 pm on 11th April. 

There is a $100 book voucher for ‘Best in Exhibition, and also Prizes for the Runner-Up, and a Peoples Choice Award.

The 'Open History Exhibition' will open on: Opening Ceremony  is at 2 pm Sunday 12th  April.

There will be a  Peoples' Choice prize awarded at the end of the Exhibition period, so we ask you all to collect a voting slip and vote for your favourite artwork.

'Hippy Divas' Exhibition by Portia Stanton-Noble and Pamela Zanker.

This is a joint exhibition presented by two artists who are also good friends. The theme for this exhibition is a celebration of independent women from hippies to Divas. 

Portia has taken a series of photographs from local areas around Springton, Eden Valley and Gumeracha capturing moments set in the past and present, for the future. In a sense this is also a history exhibition. Portia says- “ I have a lot of vintage clothing which I have put to good use for this series, and I enjoy taking photos of people in unexpected situations”.  We all look forward to seeing her work.

Pamelas artwork has been inpired and influenced by many people, among them are “Coco Chanel. Picasso and John Waterhouse.
