Important Notice to both the Public and our Members! The Gawler Community Gallery will closed from the 21st December 2015 and will be re-opening on January 7th 2016.

The Christmas raffle has again been a wonderful success, many thanks to the girls who put the fabulous prizes together, which included for the first time, a book buyers prize.

Congratulations to all, I am sure these will go well towards you all enjoying a very festive Christmas.

As you can see here the prizes are quite substantial.

On display are also a variety of items you will find in out shop, everything from paintings, jewellery, pottery, sculpture, textiles, the odd candle or two and so very much more.

Current Exhibitions

My appologies for being so behind with information for the Gawler Community Gallery.

Currenttly there are a lot of people on the sick list, myself included.

I will however do my best to bring you all up to date with all that  has been happening at he Gallery in the lst few months.

First the Mothers' Day Raffle Prize Winners - 1st prize- Alan Polkinghorne, 2nd prize - Jack Herlihen, 3rd prize - Jan Garner. Congratulations to all, I am sure the prizes were very well recieved by the respective Mother's,  and a Very Belated Happy Mother's Day to all.

The Following Exhibitions were opened on the 11th April and will close on the 17th of May.

Open Photographic Exhibition, Winner : Elise Eiffe with ‘Orange Poppy’.  
You will have to see this one at the Gallery to see how Elise has captured  the essence of this poppy. 
The second prize:went to Paul Johnson for his ‘Redcapped Robin’.  
These photographers  excel in patience as well as skill.






Hippy Divas by Portia Stanton Noble and and Pamela Zanker,
have a quirky, interesting collection of work in their ‘Hippie Diva Exhibition’.


Portia with her photos of the Sirens of the Vine are a delight of cheekiness. The vineyards and the juxtaposition of pretty models is quite fetching.

Pamela’s work shows such variety and ingenuity.  These are mostly abstract works and are definitely worth the visit to see them.

The Open History Exhibition

There is a vast variety of style, technique and subject entered into this exhibition all showing many aspects of South Australian History.

The Prize for this exhibition will be decided by 'People's Choice' by a counting of votes at the closing of the exhibition period on 17th of May. The winner will be announced here on the blog in the next post.

What's New

Easter and Change is in the Air

GCG would like to wish you all a Very Happy Easter, I hope you have had lovely weather for getting out and about on this long week end as we have here in Gawler.

The current round of exhibitions is about to end and the new ones are in the process of being hung in readiness for Grand Openings next weekend.  They will run from 9th April to 17th May 2015. 

The 'Open Photographic Exhibition', Opening Ceremony will be held at 2 pm on 11th April. 

There is a $100 book voucher for ‘Best in Exhibition, and also Prizes for the Runner-Up, and a Peoples Choice Award.

The 'Open History Exhibition' will open on: Opening Ceremony  is at 2 pm Sunday 12th  April.

There will be a  Peoples' Choice prize awarded at the end of the Exhibition period, so we ask you all to collect a voting slip and vote for your favourite artwork.

'Hippy Divas' Exhibition by Portia Stanton-Noble and Pamela Zanker.

This is a joint exhibition presented by two artists who are also good friends. The theme for this exhibition is a celebration of independent women from hippies to Divas. 

Portia has taken a series of photographs from local areas around Springton, Eden Valley and Gumeracha capturing moments set in the past and present, for the future. In a sense this is also a history exhibition. Portia says- “ I have a lot of vintage clothing which I have put to good use for this series, and I enjoy taking photos of people in unexpected situations”.  We all look forward to seeing her work.

Pamelas artwork has been inpired and influenced by many people, among them are “Coco Chanel. Picasso and John Waterhouse.

Our Mothers Day Raffle is currently selling, and selling well. This year we have 3 prizes and they all contain some Wine, perfume, glassware and chocolate.  What better incentive to get a ticket.

Entries to this age categorized exhibition were slow to start with and took of right near closing date, this meant that we would have a nice variety of art from Students in the surrounding area.
Gawlers' Lady Mayor Karen Redman opened the 'Youth Unframed' Exhibition and assisted with the giving of prizes on Sunday 18th January. Judging for Youth Unframed was by Mrs Ellen Steyn.

It was lovely to see so much diversity and colour produced by all those who had the courage to take part in the Youth Exhibition,                   WELL done everyone.

Joanne Emery' from Wasleys

Exhibition  Titled:  'Feathers and Fur' 

is in the 'Tea and Sugar" room downstairs.
She presents us with animals and birds in all shapes, colours,
and sizes, this is a colourful eclectic exhibition,
to be enjoyed by all.



Joanne also has a table display with several of her ‘candles in tea-cups’ which were very well received, by the many friends and family who came along to celebrate the official opening of her exhibition.

Art-works by the Management

The Galleries New Committee has decided to share some of their own favourite Art work with us, and to this end we have a beautiful exhibition in the 'Overland' room upstairs. This Exhibition includes a variety of Media.
For example Acrylic, Textile and Watercolour.

Unfortunately Jelina Haines has had to postpone her exhibition

 In the meantime we have extended our lovely SHOP, into the 'Red Hen' room downstairs, which means the shop now includes both the Left and Right hand rooms as you enter the Gallery.
