Openings

Three Openings Today 9th March

Joanne giving Opening Speeches,
to her left is Glenys Leske.
This afternoon saw us Celebrate Colleen Gates First SOLO Exhibition Opening, "Across The Years", as well as Glenys Leske's Textiles and the Members "Mother" themed 'Within The Square' Exhbitions.

It was a hot 35 degree afternoon which kept numbers down a little, however we still had a good turnout and everyone enjoyed their wine, nibbles, and the social event.

Our esteemed Committee member Mrs Joanne Hughes gave the opening speech and introductions for all of the exhibitions and providing a little history relating to the "Within The Square" exhibitions over the lst three years, and telling us that Glenys is from the Berri region. She has come a long distance to share he wonderful work with us.
Some of our guests today

Glenys with her Textile work
and some visitors to the Gallery

Glenys then gave us a little insight into how she came to be making such beautiful pieces of very detailed and realistic textile work, which everyone is admiring so much.

There have already been several comments in our visitor book stating just how Stunning and creative her work is.

Colleen with Some of her Elephants
Colleen, A long time valued Member of the Gawler Community Gallery just soaked up the occasion, she has been painting in several medium for 15 years or more, telling us that her preference these days is for Watercolour.
Colleen has a special connection to Elephants and her paintings are a must see. She loves her African wildlife in particular, but seems to be able to turn a hand to pretty much any subject. We all enjoyed discussing with her  how much our work changes and grows over time.

A small selection of our "Mother" Themed Art,
and a few Opening guests

The "Mother" exhibition is also attracting a lot of attention and as a members exhibition it is so very bright and cheery. It is exciting to see the variety of subject matter in this room, it is quite astounding given that the title of each work's requirement was to include the word Mother in the title.

Current Exhibitions

Openings:

for this months round of Exhibitions will be held on Sunday the 9th of March.
I hope you enjoy the small sample of artwork I have selected here.

Upstairs:

Overland and Ghan Exhibition Rooms: Glenys Leske.
No title as such: Landscapes, Art Quilts and Portraits

Glenys is a well known Textile Artist from Berri. She is a foundation member of the "Riverland Textile Artists" and a member of the Embroiderers Guild of SA as well as the SA Lace Guild. She has produced the most exquisite Australian landscapes in machine embroidery textiles, as well as quilts, traditional lace, felting and lead lighting.

A very talented and eclectic artist, it will be a rewarding experience to see her beautiful work.

The Photo on the right above is a close up showing you the imense amount of detail that Glenys needs to provide a look of realism in her Art work.
Below, showing two different method of Textile work.

Downstairs:

Red Hen Exhibition Room:
Title: Within the Square- theme is "Mother"
Each canvas is 30cms square and the Title MUST contain the word 'Mother'.
This has not proven to be such a challenge as we initially thought.
As Colleen said; "People have wonderful ways of expressing the word Mother".

This year there is a prize for the People's Choice winner.
Come along and vote for your favourite piece.

We have also been lucky enough  to have the "Adelaide Plains Poets" group come in, as they did last year to write a poem about one of the "Mother" Themed Canvases. These poems will be placed under the paintings which they were written about. You are invited to read them and we hope that you enjoy them also.

  Downstairs:

Tea and Sugar Exhibition Room: Colleen Gates- an original member of our Gallery.
Title: "Across the Years".  A retro exhibition.
This is Colleen's First Solo Exhibition. She has held many shared ones over the years and is a very accomplished artist.
Her range of ability covers, Watercolour, Oil and Acrylic, with a definite preference for Watercolour currently.

Colleen has the ability to work "Abstract" as well as "Realism", not everyone can do this and I am amongst them.

She is displaying a variety of her older works this time and you will be treated to a wonderful range of topic in her artwork which is always beautiful in its own right as well as beautifully presented.

Her most popularly purchased pieces in recent years have been her elephants, but I am given to understand there will not be many of those this time.
Definitely a must see
as are all our Exhibitions this time.
